Caroling with The Care Plan

The holiday season holds complexity for LGBTQ communities. While lights twinkle and families and friends gather, many LGBTQ individuals struggle with depression and isolation.

For LGBTQ seniors and youth, those living with HIV, struggling with addiction or experiencing homelessness, all is not merry and bright. LGBTQ seniors are twice as likely to live alone than the general population, leading to increased loneliness during the holiday season.

This year, in an effort to raise awareness and meaningfully connect to individuals across the LGBTQ spectrum, The Care Plan is sponsoring our inaugural event, “Caroling with The Care Plan”.

On Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 6pm, The Care Plan, in conjunction with Broadway United Methodist Church Choir and Lakeside Pride Musical Ensemble will begin at Town Hall Apartments (3600 N. Halsted) and continue south to Bonaventure House (825 W. Wellington).

Town Hall Apartments is Chicago’s first LGBTQ senior housing structure, and Bonaventure House provides transitional housing and resources for those diagnosed with HIV or AIDS.  Marginalized members of LGBTQ communities struggle with invisibility throughout the year, at the holidays it is our responsibility to reach out and let people know they are not alone.

The event includes an opportunity to write personalized cards which will be mailed to seniors and homebound LGBTQ individuals.  Hot beverages, music and cards all provided courtesy of the organizers.  “Caroling with The Care Plan” is open to the public, please contact The Care Plan Founder Jacqueline Boyd for specific details or to suggest a senior for outreach, at
